Q: What is a Bagabattery?
A:
Bagabattery is a scheme to prevent batteries ending up in landfill, where toxic contents may leach out into the soil leaving pollution for centuries.
Q: Why should I participate?
A:
Acting alone we can do little, but if we all act together, we can save energy, resources, cut pollution and make a positive contribution towards the continued well being of our island and our planet.
Q: What kind of batteries can be recycled?
A:
At present, normal domestic household batteries. We have recycling arranged for carbon/alkaline single use batteries, but we will also collect rechargeables and button batteries and when we find a suitable partner we will arrange for these to be recycled.
Q: Why is it called Bagabattery?
A:
Shoppers in mondomundi will notice a label on the shopping bags encouraging that they be reused to transport the batteries back to us - but don't worry, we'll accept them back in any safe, clean container.
Q: Can Other Companies Participate?
A:
We will be writing to all trade customers of M2M & Lucas Freight, our fairtrade and Eco trade supply business to invite them to participate. Other businesses may contact us via the contact page for more information.
Q: Who Pays for all this? Does it come out of our taxes?
A:
At present this scheme is entirely funded by Ecomundi and Lucas Freight. It is free to use and costs the States of Guernsey nothing.
